Please join the European American Chamber of Commerce and AIG for a discussion of transatlantic trade, policy, and regulation.

Trade policy and regulatory coherence are critical for the economies of both the European Union (EU) and the United States (US). For the UK, the financial services sector is an integral part of the economy, and the UK excels in insurance, banking, asset management, capital markets, related professional services and Fin Tech. The UK in fact provides the wider EU with a sizeable portion of its capital markets and associated liquidity. Likewise, the bank sector is important in the EU and interacts with that of the US across multiple fronts.

More widely, transatlantic trade is a core component of the US-EU relationship. Panelists will explore these issues, and more, and deep dive into the complexities and challenges of twenty-first century international trade, trade policy and regulatory coherence.

Panelists will explore:
• the challenges and complexities negotiators face in trying to meet these objectives;
• the degree of alignment that is likely to exist between the UK and the EU's financial regulatory regimes post-Brexit; and
• other implications associated with Brexit such as the trans-Atlantic relationship and the UK's competitiveness in financial services particularly in the areas of digitalization and fintech.

• David O'Sullivan, Ambassador of the European Union to the United States
• Antony Phillipson, British Consul General in New York and Director General of International Trade North America
• Victor Rod, Of Counsel, Arendt Medernach
