Webinar - Data Protection Update

Wed. March 09, 2016
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

!

The demise of the EU-US safe harbor arrangement has been bad news for many businesses in the US and the UK. A new "EU-U.S. Privacy Shield" deal in principle has just been announced as the replacement to the safe harbor but it is already causing much controversy, is currently short on detail and is still subject to a number of hurdles before it can become effective. The much anticipated release of the final text of the onerous new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) due in the coming months only adds to the uncertainty. There is a lot to worry about in the world of data protection and cross border transfer of personal data.

Gain unique insights in a joint webinar, hosted by leading UK and US law firms, Travers Smith and EACC NY Member Pepper Hamilton LLP.

AGENDA:
• report on the new "EU-U.S. Privacy Shield", highlight possible new compliance burdens and examine the alternative mechanisms being used to allow export of personal data from the UK / Europe to the US; and
• learn about the issues which both UK and US businesses will have to plan for in order to comply with the upcoming GDPR: it comes into effect in 2018 but many issues may need substantial lead times.

PRESENTERS:
Sharon R. Klein, Partner, Chair of the Privacy, Security & Data Protection Practice, PEPPER HAMILTON LLP
Dan Reavill, Head of Technology Sector, TRAVERS SMITH
